How many times have you been in a conversation and typed “lol” or “lmao” and you actually laughed out loud or laughed your ass off, honestly. Well, today I was having a a conversation with Zak and it went like this:
Zaki: The original title for Alien vs. Predator was Alien and Predator vs Chuck Norris. The film was canceled shortly after going into preproduction. No one would pay nine dollars to see a movie fourteen seconds long.
Me: lmao
Me: chuck norris facts rule
Zaki: haha totally
Me: isn’t funny how I typed, lmao - yet I didnt laugh at all
Zaki:lol
Now, Zak knows I didn’t laugh my ass off because he’s in the next room and would have surely heard me laugh to the point of my ass falling off. He, on the other hand did laugh out loud to my observation of that fact, which led to this post.
So, how many of you are really “laughing out loud” and how many of you are just simply typing it out giving false hope to those who think they’re funny. Same thing with the “haha” that most of us use. Check out this funny chart to see what it means when you put: “ha” or “hahah” or even “hahahaha”.
It also reminds me of the episode of Scrubs where J.D. is dating Mandy Moore’s character that always says “that’s funny”, but NEVER laughs. Guess we’ll just have to assume we’re funny people, making them LOL all the time.

Nah Nah Nah Nah, now hold up shun! I have given this intense subject thought before and have the solution. Haha is the most mild form of typed laughter and should generally be used as a ‘I see the humor in your statement, but you’ve got to crank it up to get an lol out of me.. for now I only have a small smile’ Keep in mind I am referring to the simple four lettered haha. Breaking it down to a 2 lettered ‘Ha’ is the absolute weakest form of comedic appreciation. Now the ‘lol’ undercased can be taken a little bit more seriously. However, it doesnt always have to indicate that you really laughed out loud. Adding more L’s to the end of the sentence or more ha’s can break this rule, usually calling for laughter in real life. The dead giveaways are usually the all caps letters. If someone says LOL, or even LOL! Then you can pretty much guess they actually laughed, because you just showed them some great stuff. Lmao’s seem to be honed to something really extreme or very funny, usually to most people that see it. Lmaos, lol!! and lolllll along with the longer hahahahahahahas seem to be the truest form of ‘I am physically making some kind of laughing noise’ statements. Booyakasha!

@Josh - I think you missed the point of the posting. I wasn’t looking to clarify the meanings behind lol or LOL, as you’ve clearly done for us all. I was just wondering how many of us are really laughing out loud. Not much to really debate about, it’s just my thoughts based on the example I gave where I said lmao, but didn’t actually laugh at all.
